Facebook Page Reminder: Teacher’s Day!

Just wanted to remind folks of my Facebook page for updates on my arrival back in Laos.

As for Beanie and Lucy, there was some news of a woman who recently lost her little dog in my hometown and was looking for a replacement. However, my mom reported that 2 dogs for her were too many.

I will say that Beanie and Lucy are really little trouble at all. I had 3 dogs in China and all three were almost like having one. Everyone, however, has to make his or her own decision.

Sadness in our Midst

Let me add some sadness to yesterday’s joyful Teacher’s Day in that Santi, my office manager, had to put his kitty, Mok, to sleep.

FIV (Feline Leukemia) had him entering State 5 of that autoimmune disease. Santi tried his best to keep him alive over the past 3 months but it was apparent, especially this week, Mok’s struggle to continue being with his beloved owner was not to be.

Santi went home from the Center to collect his kitty while I waited at Dr. Kim’s for his arrival. All I could do was offer support. It was hard on all of us.

Mok was Santi’s very first pet he’d ever had. That fluffy kitty, so pretty, was given to him by a college classmate last year who had to go overseas for studies. He decided he could keep the kitty, although it was a new adventure for him. Kitty litter box, food, play toys . . . His furry companion was his joy. Every night when he came home, there was Kitty waiting for him. He’d meow and greet him with purrs and happiness, . . . then insistently want his snacks!

Thank you to Dr. Kim, the Korean vet whose animal clinic is near the Center. She offers so many of us pet owners her expertise, guidance and care in helping our furry creatures live a happy life. It was hard on all of us yesterday, especially for Santi.

We were all quiet, of course in tears, as Mok left us for a better place.

He was placed carefully in Santi’s carrier and he took him home to bury. There will be a place in his row-house apartment area where he can go to remember his little one, now playing, while waiting for snacks from his family member who will someday be joining him, over the rainbow bridge.

About connieinasia

I have been in the Asia region for 27 years as an English language teacher. A majority of those have been in China with the Amity Foundation , a Chinese NGO that works in all areas of development for the Chinese people. Covid stranded me in America for over 3 years, with China closing its boarders to returning teachers. In 2023, I was accepted into a new teaching role not in China but in Laos. Join me in experiencing this incredible journey into a different culture, a different language, and a different life.
