About connieinasia

I have been in the Asia region for 27 years as an English language teacher. A majority of those have been in China with the Amity Foundation , a Chinese NGO that works in all areas of development for the Chinese people. Covid stranded me in America for over 3 years, with China closing its boarders to returning teachers. In 2023, I was accepted into a new teaching role not in China but in Laos. Join me in experiencing this incredible journey into a different culture, a different language, and a different life.

Faith Grows

A few posts back, I reported that we had a house finch who built her nest in our front porch wreath. At that time, we discovered three tiny eggs  tucked deep inside her oval home. But it seems our little … Continue reading

“Do you need masks? I can send them.”

My text messages this morning came from my veterinarian friend, Dr. Wang, who is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province’s capital city.  Over the years, she’s helped me with numerous animal rescues:  giving me discounts, mailing me canine or feline medical … Continue reading

News from China brings ponderings of what lies ahead.

In China, the news is victorious. Wuhan, a city of 11 million and the epicenter of the virus, is open once more. After 9 weeks of lockdown, starting on January 23, this Hubei province metropolis has survived the worst.  Virus … Continue reading

Before reading, if you haven’t already, for the background story check March 28 post, “Mea Culpa.”  Thunderstorms engulfed our area of Illinois yesterday evening.  The weather cells affected large swaths of the Midwest, including swooping down through the southern states … Continue reading

Toilet paper back in stock: “Mine, mine, mine!”

The surprising run on toilet paper the past 2 weeks left paper product aisles vacant. Toilet paper and boxed tissue/Kleenex items were not to be found until recently when at least bulk toilet paper returned this week to our … Continue reading

Mea Culpa: It’s the Finch of Faith, not the Dove of Peace

Hey, folks!  I owe you all a mea culpa. Last post eloquently postulated about our mourning doves which I announced had created a nest in the front door wreath.  It was a logical assumption as last year, they made woven … Continue reading

Our little bird brings hope

We know spring is here when our mourning doves are flitting about with tufts of dry grass, weeds and stalks in their beaks.  According to the mourning dove info I’ve found, peak nesting time is in late spring or early … Continue reading
